More than 500 bikes seized during summer crackdown on illegal riding

More than 500 bikes have been seized by officers this summer as part of a crackdown on the anti-social and illegal use of off-road bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, quad bikes and motorcycles across the region.

Operation Hurricane is our dedicated, coordinated effort to tackle the misuse of these vehicles, which continues to cause significant disruption within communities, affect quality of life and pose serious risks to the public.

In total, officers seized 503 bikes, made 25 arrests, issued 116 traffic offence reports and served 11 Section 59 warnings.

In some cases, the anti-social and dangerous use of these vehicles has resulted in serious injuries and fatal collisions, with devastating consequences for victims, their families and local communities.

Officers from our Roads Policing Unit (RPU), Drone and Motorcycle Unit, National Police Air Service (NPAS) and neighbourhood teams targeted hotspot locations throughout the summer to deter, detect and disrupt offending.

Working closely with partners, officers have used intelligence to identify areas of concern and respond effectively to reports from the public.
